What is Gainesville’s nickname?

 The Answer

Did you know Gainesville had another name before it was this current name? Well, it did; The University of Florida’s students are taught the initial name when they first enter Gainesville. In the early 19th century, Gainesville had inhabitants who raised hogs and traded them for income. Their customers called the town Hogtown. Still today, there are businesses named using the original name, Hogtown such as Hogtown Creek Greenway, Hogtown Creek also Hogtown BBQ. You may be familiar with the food if you have eaten at Hogtown BBQ before. As for Hogtown Creek Greenway, I have read about the historic trails. I will say I’m intrigued to visit for the experience.
